Product Information
Unlike
conventional backpacker’s filters, which have hoses and pump mechanisms, the
Aquamira filter bottle is easy and intuitive to use.
The Aquamira filter uses advanced carbon block
technology. The activated carbon core of the filter creates a "tortuous
path" to strain out harmful pathogens such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium,
and larger bacteria. Unlike thin membrane filters, the thicker carbon block
prevents pathogens like Giardia from "blowing through" the filter under
pressure from the water stream.
In independent testing the Aquamira filter removed
99.9% of pathogens 2 microns and larger (most protozoans, including Giardia
and Cryptosporidium, are larger than 3 microns. The filter also effectively
removes chlorine and other chemical flavors. This makes it ideal for use in
conjunction with chemical water treatments.
Chemical treatments are recommended when viruses
may be present in the water, as when traveling in developing countries or
popular natural areas (viruses are too small to be removed by filtration
alone). Used in conjuction with chemical treatment, the Aquamira filter
provides the benefit of removing organisms that may be too large to be
inactivated by chemical treatment; i.e. mosquito larvae.
The Aquamira filter treats up to 200 refills of
the bottle, depending on initial water clarity.
Note: portable backpackers and travelers filters,
such as the Aquamira filter bottle, are not effective against industrial,
agricultural or residential pollutants and are not recommended for use where
they may be present.
